‘Don’t choose a man because he chose you’ — Damilola Adegbite advises single women

Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has advised single women not to accept relationship or marriage proposals simply because a man has chosen them, urging them to consider whether he is genuinely right for them.

Adegbite gave the advice during a recent episode of her podcast, which was posted on her YouTube channel.

The actress noted that some women settle for men who are ready for marriage simply because those men chose them, without considering compatibility or whether the relationship would be healthy and fulfilling.

“Ladies, don’t choose someone because they chose you. Choose someone because they are right for you; whether he’s younger, older or exactly your age, the question is always: Can we love, support, and build with each other?” she said.

Adegbite stressed that age should not be the deciding factor when choosing a life partner, noting that what matters is the ability of both individuals to love, support and build a life together.

“Because at the end of the day, we are not looking for numbers. We are looking for a partner. And if that partner happens to be younger, that is also fine,” she added.

She also addressed older women who receive marriage proposals from younger men, cautioning them against accepting such relationships simply because the attention makes them feel desirable.

“To the older woman, if a younger man is interested in you, please don’t make the mistake of choosing him because he makes you feel desirable. Choose him because he respects, supports, and makes you feel safe,” Adegbite said.

The actress urged women to consider the prospective partner’s emotional maturity, intentions and willingness to respect their existing responsibilities before making a commitment.

“Only choose him if he is emotionally mature and knows what he wants, respects your children and your life, and actually wants to build something with you,” she added.
